About Us
We – Christina and Murray – have been running this family-owned motel since October 2014.
Having spent most of our careers in hospitality, we have combined our skills and knowledge with Murray’s experience as a trade carpenter and joiner to ensure the Mount View Motel is professionally managed and maintained, yet still delivers quality and service with a family-orientated friendliness.
We have previously owned and operated businesses in bed & breakfast, restaurants and night-life venues as well as a rest home, private personal & lifestyle services and even as a freelance Butler and Chef. Our background, experience and qualifications in hospitality places us as true industry professionals in our field.
We hope that your decision to stay with us will be relaxing and comfortable. We all thank you for making us your hosts and our home, your home away from home.

Discover Hawera & South Taranaki
Hawera is found on State Highway 3 on the Southwest Coast of the North Island, at the base of the majestic Mount Taranaki, one of New Zealand’s four main volcanoes.
Only 72km from New Plymouth and a 3.5-hour drive to Wellington, Hawera is surrounded by the fertile plains of Mt. Taranaki and is a thriving rural centre with extensive industry and agri-business services.
Hawera also services the main centre of New Zealand’s on-shore and off-shore oil and gas industries along the South-West coast.
The Mount View Motel Hawera specialises in accommodation services for Industry Professionals with quiet units located to the rear of our premises for shift workers to rest well before their next shift.
Catering to almost any sporting interest, including bowls, tennis, croquet, swimming and at least 8 golf courses within 30-45 minutes drive; Hawera is also the perfect starting point to begin the world-renowned Great Surfing Highway to the Southwest and the World Forgotten Highway to the North. Both areas are ideal for hiking, walking and trekking.
Surf Highway 45 runs along the Taranaki coastline between Hawera and New Plymouth.
Nearby beaches include Opunake Beach, Kaupokonui Beach, Mana Bay / Patea Beach and Ohawe Beach.
Te Ngutu Golf Club is one of South Taranaki’s most picturesque 18-hole courses. It is a short 10-minute drive away. The Hawera Golf Club is our local links 12-hole golf course.

The ‘Visit Taranaki’ website is full of information on amazing places to go and interesting things to do.
If you’re into scenic walks there are some great ones in South Taranaki.
Recommendations include the Dawson Falls Walking Tracks and the York Road Loop Track, especially after you’ve been to Tawhiti Museum!
Other popular options include the Rotokare walkways – Lake Walkway and Ridgewalk. The Lake Rotokare Walkway is a beautiful scenic walk around the lake. There is a wetland boardwalk and a floating viewing platform, both built to wheelchair standard.
A visit to Tawhiti Museum should be on everyone’s To-Do list. This world class attraction has been created in an old dairy factory on the outskirts of town and is open all year round with Winter hours being Friday-Monday but Sunday is a certainty all year round. The Traders and Whalers boat ride is a real treat for young and old.
Voted in the top 3 best New Zealand Museums, Tawhiti Museum details New Zealand’s indigenous and settler cultural history including displays created in collaboration with Sir Peter Jackson, director of The Lord of the Rings Trilogy.
The museum uses life-size exhibits and scale models to capture the past in a series of super-realistic displays.
All the displays – including the life size figures were created from moulds cast from real people – are designed and built on the premises.
TSB Hub, better known as ‘The Hub’, is Taranaki’s premier sports, recreation, events and function centre.
The Hub sporting complex caters to many sporting events including rugby, tennis, netball and cricket and also hosts events like the Hot Rod Nationals, Davis Cup Tennis qualifying rounds and roller skating.
Equipped with a gym, café, bars and restaurant/function areas able to facilitate weddings, family, business or community events, The Hub is within easy walking distance to Mount View Motel, making us an easy option to accommodate the smallest of family gatherings to the largest community or club membership groups.
The most iconic feature of Hawera (which is Maori for The Burnt Place) is our Water Tower which can be seen from various points around the area.
The Information Centre is currently located at the base of the water tower and for a small charge will give you a key so you can climb to the top and get some fabulous photos plus some exercise too of course.
